SUMMARY:Collaborative Mentoring Webinar Series: Mentee-Approved Strategies for Address
DESCRIPTION:Register for this webinar here. \nWhen mentees are facing difficulty or want to talk about delicate issues\, mentors and program staff can feel challenged to show up in a nurturing and helpful manner. These moments can have a great impact on the relationship and a young person’s future\, for better or worse. Young people themselves have a great deal to say about what they want from adults at these junctures\, and their thoughts can help to demystify the process of offering support. \nJoin mentoring expert Dustianne North (California Mentoring Partnership) for a moderated panel featuring Julia Pryce (Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work)\, mentoring scholar and co-developer of the Mentoring FAN model (in collaboration with Linda Gilkerson)\, which is based on observations of mentor-mentee dyads and provides a roadmap for adults in conversation with youth when difficult issues are at hand. Two young adult leaders (announced soon) will also join us to offer additional reflections and strategies. \nRegister for this webinar here.

SUMMARY:Who Mentored You? Research Study
DESCRIPTION:Register for this webinar here. \nWho Mentored You? — a new research study by MENTOR — examines the prevalence of mentors in the lives of Americans growing up and takes a fresh look at the “mentoring gap” of 1-in-3 young people growing up without a mentor to see if we have made progress in increasing mentoring relationships over the last decade. The study offers a fresh multigenerational look at the mentoring experiences of all Americans\, from the Baby Boomer Generation to today’s Gen Z young adults. The full report offers an insightful look into who in our society is finding mentoring relationships and where\, offering special insights into the meaningful actions of mentors and the impact adults feel that mentoring in the formative years has had on their lives. Most importantly\, the findings also support an urgent call to action to meet the rising mentoring needs to today’s young people. \nWho Mentored You? will be released in conjunction with the National Mentoring Summit on January 26-27\, 2023. This webinar features study authors Mike Garringer (MENTOR) and Chelsea Benning (Olympic Research and Strategy) discussing the study’s methodology and findings\, with an emphasis on five core themes and meaningful steps the mentoring field can take to make use of these results. If you are interested in the growth of the mentoring movement\, a generational understanding of mentoring access and impact\, and the needs of young people for more mentoring in this moment\, please join us for an hour of learning and discussion about this new study. \nRegister for this webinar here.

SUMMARY:An Introduction to Critical Mentoring
DESCRIPTION:Register Here. \nCritical mentoring has been a concept that has grown in popularity and importance since the release of Dr. Torie Weiston-Serdan’s seminal book Critical Mentoring: A Practical Guide in 2017. This resource offered both a timely critique of the mentoring movement in America\, while also offering an example of how mentoring work could be reimagined to meet the growing needs of today’s youth and begin dismantling systems of oppression in communities\, rather than subtly reinforcing them. \nMENTOR is excited to work with Dr. Weiston-Serdan to further this vision with the release of the Critical Mentoring Supplement to the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring. This new resource marries the concepts and principles of critical mentoring with the standards of practice found in the Elements\, offering practitioners who want to shift to a critical mentoring framework with guidance on building and implementing those services with an eye on program quality and impact. This resource will be helpful to any program that wants to better meet the needs of marginalized youth and use mentoring to address issues of racial equity and social justice in their community. Join us on Oct. 27 at 1pm as we debut this new resource and discuss the ways in which mentoring programs\, and the youth they serve\, can be true agents of change in communities. \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:Mentoring in the 'New Normal': Maximizing Participant Engagement in These Still-“COVIDy” Times
DESCRIPTION:Register for this webinar here. \nThe COVID-19 pandemic forced mentoring programs to rapidly virtualize and distance while grappling to meet changing needs in families and mentors — potentially resulting in significant changes to what programs and practices will look like moving forward. This workshop will reveal key insights from recent research and practice about how to maximize the engagement of youth\, families\, and mentors in these changing times. What communication modes\, engagement strategies\, and opportunities for voice and agency have programs found effective over the course of the pandemic? In particular\, what have we learned about the meaningful engagement of caregivers in the mentoring experience\, a recognized need for improvement in many mentoring efforts even before the pandemic? Moderator Dustianne North of the California Mentoring Partnership welcomes panelists Roger Jarjoura of the American Institutes for Research and Jamila Trimuel of the Ladies of Virtue\, to offer groundbreaking perspectives on these timely questions. \nRegister for this webinar here.
