SUMMARY:Collaborative Mentoring Webinar Series: Leveraging Assets to Address Resource Gaps in Rural Mentoring
DESCRIPTION:Register for this webinar here. \n18% of children (13.4 million) live in rural communities within the US\, while only 10% of US mentoring programs are in those same communities. Large geographic service areas\, scarce resources\, and limited opportunities all contribute to the challenges of building and maintaining mentoring infrastructure. We’ve booked a panel of professionals who have leveraged the assets of their community to build thriving rural mentoring programs. Learn the creative strategies they’ve implemented and the innovative partnerships they’ve built that you can model within your own organization. \nRegister for this webinar here.

SUMMARY:Who Mentored You? Research Study
DESCRIPTION:Register for this webinar here. \nWho Mentored You? — a new research study by MENTOR — examines the prevalence of mentors in the lives of Americans growing up and takes a fresh look at the “mentoring gap” of 1-in-3 young people growing up without a mentor to see if we have made progress in increasing mentoring relationships over the last decade. The study offers a fresh multigenerational look at the mentoring experiences of all Americans\, from the Baby Boomer Generation to today’s Gen Z young adults. The full report offers an insightful look into who in our society is finding mentoring relationships and where\, offering special insights into the meaningful actions of mentors and the impact adults feel that mentoring in the formative years has had on their lives. Most importantly\, the findings also support an urgent call to action to meet the rising mentoring needs to today’s young people. \nWho Mentored You? will be released in conjunction with the National Mentoring Summit on January 26-27\, 2023. This webinar features study authors Mike Garringer (MENTOR) and Chelsea Benning (Olympic Research and Strategy) discussing the study’s methodology and findings\, with an emphasis on five core themes and meaningful steps the mentoring field can take to make use of these results. If you are interested in the growth of the mentoring movement\, a generational understanding of mentoring access and impact\, and the needs of young people for more mentoring in this moment\, please join us for an hour of learning and discussion about this new study. \nRegister for this webinar here.

SUMMARY:An Introduction to Critical Mentoring
DESCRIPTION:Register Here. \nCritical mentoring has been a concept that has grown in popularity and importance since the release of Dr. Torie Weiston-Serdan’s seminal book Critical Mentoring: A Practical Guide in 2017. This resource offered both a timely critique of the mentoring movement in America\, while also offering an example of how mentoring work could be reimagined to meet the growing needs of today’s youth and begin dismantling systems of oppression in communities\, rather than subtly reinforcing them. \nMENTOR is excited to work with Dr. Weiston-Serdan to further this vision with the release of the Critical Mentoring Supplement to the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring. This new resource marries the concepts and principles of critical mentoring with the standards of practice found in the Elements\, offering practitioners who want to shift to a critical mentoring framework with guidance on building and implementing those services with an eye on program quality and impact. This resource will be helpful to any program that wants to better meet the needs of marginalized youth and use mentoring to address issues of racial equity and social justice in their community. Join us on Oct. 27 at 1pm as we debut this new resource and discuss the ways in which mentoring programs\, and the youth they serve\, can be true agents of change in communities. \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:Mentoring Foster Youth: Clinical Support Options for Programs Serving Youth in Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:Register Here. \nMentoring programs are increasingly supporting young people experiencing mental health concerns\, such as depressive symptoms or the effects of trauma. Yet\, it’s neither feasible\, nor necessarily appropriate\, for every mentoring program to add clinically-trained staff. \nJoin the Mentoring Foster Youth webinar series on Sept. 29th at 1pm. This 60-minute facilitated course will present considerations and options for mentoring program staff or Technical Assistance providers to access clinically-informed professional guidance for informing match support conversations. The webinar will address clinical needs that may arise in serving youth with exposure to trauma\, particularly youth impacted by foster care\, and exploring a continuum of options for accessing clinical support. There is an optional online course\, “Introduction to Mentoring Youth Impacted by Foster Care\,” this live webinar builds upon. \nRegister Here.
