AmeriCorps VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator with Resilience Education (Charlottesville)


Resilience Education (RE) ’s mission is to stop cycles of incarceration by improving economic mobility for justice-involved individuals through high-quality business education and professional support. The organization’s goal is to make high-quality business curricula more accessible in order to reduce re-incarceration rates and combat the collateral consequences of mass incarceration.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator will help in the sustainability of projects initiated by a former VISTA Member. The new VISTA will support multiple objectives, including the refinement of existing mentor/mentee recruitment infrastructure and the refinement of existing mentor/mentee training infrastructure. During the year of service, the VISTA Member will get involved in community outreach with a focus on cultivating new partnerships as well as the development of effective marketing and communications materials to increase interest and knowledge in the mentoring program.

AmeriCorps VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator with Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline (Roanoke)

Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline serves girls in kindergarten through 12th grade with programs focusing on STEM, life skills, entrepreneurship, and outdoor adventures. For 110 years, the Girl Scouts have encouraged leadership development in girls. The organization’s programs are designed for Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities and since its foundation has contributed to building strength and confidence in thousands of girls in the locality.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator will play a role in supporting mentoring programs and events while increasing capacity within the organization. The VISTA member will assist in the design and delivery of multiple programs, including STEM and Journey sessions and badges. Additionally, the VISTA will work on the recruitment, screening, and retention of volunteers and mentors.

This service opportunity is in Roanoke, Virginia.

Pamela Johnson

MENTOR Virginia

Pamela R. Johnson is joining Mentor Virginia with 40 years of experience in education. She has worked in urban,rural and county public schools environments. She has enjoyed each experience equally where she has developed her passion for supporting and empowering staff and students to advocate and  strengthen their knowledge in self and work ethic. During her years in education she was trained and certified to mentor through the National Association of Elementary School Principals mentoring program. She has taken those skills to work with youth outside of the school setting. Pam has served on many committees to help young people learn to work together and find ways to express their voice. Just out of retiring June of 2022 she stepped into her position here at Mentor Virginia as our Youth Impact Coordinator in October of 2022. She is a graduate of Morgan State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree and received her masters in Administration/Supervision  from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is the state of Virginia’s 2015 National Distinguished Principal and noted for her ability to mentor and build relationships within her years as an instructional leader within Chesterfield Public Schools.
