February’s Coffee Hour has been remixed as a mid-day “pick me up!” Grab your cappuccino or latte, and join MENTOR Virginia on Wednesday, February 9 from 3:00–4:00 PM for Mid-day Mocha Hour. We’ll be discussing the mentoring field’s movement from “mentoring” to “critical mentoring.” Critical mentoring is defined as mentoring that:

1. Fully considers race, ethnicity, gender, class and sexuality when building the infrastructure for programs.
2. Focuses on critical consciousness and transformation rather than assimilation and adaptation.
3. Places emphasis on the whole community, the whole protégé, rather than just parts of the whole.
4. Includes the needs of the community and the needs of the youth in the community (not about us without us).
5. Promotes and supports mentor/protégé partnerships for community transformation.

MENTOR Virginia will virtually host Community Coffee Hour every 2nd Wednesday of the month with mentoring program staff to create space for peer-to-peer learning and resource sharing, and to address issues you and your organization might be facing during the pandemic and beyond. We hope to see you at an upcoming Community Coffee Hour!
