MENTOR Virginia is launching our first-ever Youth Advisory Council! We are on a mission to change how we serve youth by working alongside youth as colleagues. Youth will be empowered to promote change and raise awareness about issues impacting them and their communities, and will have opportunities to engage in projects, discuss experiences, and provide feedback about mentoring practices that affect them. The youth who take part in the first Youth Advisory Council will help establish the structures, goals, and activities of the council. It is an exciting time to join our Youth Advisory Council!

Why is MENTOR Virginia Launching a Youth Advisory Council?

The concept of our Youth Advisory Council is rooted in our values. We believe that youth perspectives are crucial to ensure the quality of our mentoring partnerships and programs. The Youth Advisory Council is a critical way that MENTOR Virginia will advance toward our goal of improving youth mentoring programs within communities and advancing our work with Critical Mentoring. Youth will advise MENTOR Virginia’s projects and directions, ensuring relevance to strengthen our work and youth will receive leadership development, experiences, and training (plus a stipend!). It is MENTOR Virginia’s belief that a diverse group of youth who bring varied experiences as well as perspectives is key to advancing our mission.
