Hope as Resistance: A Black History Month Panel

February 28, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Free

Register here.

Black History Month is a time to celebrate and honor the contributions of Black American to the foundation of our country. Not the least of these contributions was a resilient hope and determination that mirrored the ideals of a nation yet to be formed. Join us for our Black History panel discussion about hope as resistance and its importance in society. Our speakers, James Gordon, principal of Glen Lea Elementary School, Alicia Randolph, Founder and Director of ArtOfMeRVA, and Tamice Spencer-Helms, author of Faith Unleavened and the Training and DEI Manager at MENTOR Virginia, will pull from their own experiences and the text Hope Rising to discuss:

  • How hope is a tool to overcome trauma, adversity, and struggles
  • Why hope is so important for our young people today
  • The impact that hope has on its community.
