Grab your coffee or tea, and join your mentoring program peers and MENTOR Virginia on Wednesday, January 12 from 9:00 – 10:00 am for Community Coffee Hour. We’ll be joined by Dreamel Spady (LCSW) for a discussion on compassion fatigue. What is it? How do we recognize it in ourselves and others? What can we do to combat it? We look forward to kicking off the New Year with this timely conversation on promoting self-care among program staff and mentors.

MENTOR Virginia will virtually host Community Coffee Hour every 2nd Wednesday of the month with mentoring program staff to create space for peer-to-peer learning and resource sharing, and to address issues you and your organization might be facing during the pandemic and beyond. We hope to see you at an upcoming Community Coffee Hour!

Meet the Guest Presenter!

Dreamel Spady is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and owner of Renewal, Growth, & Healing. Most people, including her clients, describe her as down-to-earth, vibrant, energetic, and highly personable. Dreamel earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Virginia Union University and a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. With almost 20 years of experience, she has worn many hats and worked across the spectrum of the human services field. As a lifelong community leader, she has been involved in many community and professional organizations, currently serving on the Virginia Behavioral Health Advisory Council. When she was a Probation Officer, she was assigned to a specialized domestic violence unit, helping men and women identify and change abusive behavior in intimate partner relationships. Dreamel worked as Clinical Director for a few community mental health agencies, overseeing the clinical operations of community- and school-based programs aimed to prevent out-of-school suspension and out-of-home placement for children and provide clinical support to adults to avoid inpatient hospitalization and increase self-sufficiency. Her journey in the mental health field has also included working with military families, those battling drug and alcohol addiction, and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Dreamel is currently training to become certified as an Emergency Responder and Public Safety Clinical Provider (National Emergency Responder and Public Safety Center) and a Grief Recovery Method Specialist (Grief Recovery Institute). In private practice, her areas of expertise include stress/anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship challenges & family conflict, and trauma.
