Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Implementation:
- Create, review, and refine training offerings and materials to include slide decks, handbooks, and accompanying facilitation guides to ensure alignment with current research and best practices to meet the needs of mentoring providers and our state’s youth
- Research, develop and deliver custom diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings related to the mentoring field
- Lead MENTOR Virginia’s internal professional development program on DEI topics with staff and consultants
- Develop, refine, and facilitate training opportunities for program partners on topics including the Elements of Effective Practice that enables programs to implement high-quality mentoring that appeals to diverse mentors
- Develop and manage a process for scheduling trainings—public and private—to best suit the needs of clients
- Provide training development support to mentoring programs through the National Mentoring Resource Center’s no-cost technical assistance program as requested
- Track training data, and monitor training quality and impact to ensure continuous quality improvement
- Other administrative duties and record keeping as assigned
Relationship Management:
- Establish and deepen network of contacts by communicating regularly about training offerings for customized training to boards, committees, schools, public, private, non-profit organizations, and industry-leading organizations
- Leverage Everyday Mentoring™ training to build relationships with new community organizations and to create entry points for potential program partners and mentors to join the mentoring movement
- Regularly update training information and dates on the website and social media calendars
- Support the planning, facilitation, and evaluation of ongoing statewide mentoring convenings and events including monthly –Community Coffee Hours; promote training opportunities during convenings and events
- Support programs that are accessing training services in engaging in other MENTOR Virginia services including consulting, AmeriCorps VISTA, and National Quality Mentoring System
Supervision, Performance Management, & Coordination:
- Supervise, train, and orient team of trainers to support MENTOR Virginia’s mission
- Match trainers to projects and programs that best fit their strengths and skills
- Conduct regular meetings with trainers for them to receive frequent, constructive feedback while staying informed of policies and procedures
- Oversee a Youth Advisory Council AmeriCorps VISTA as they work on refining and implementing a Youth Advisory Council; if no AmeriCorps VISTA can be recruited, manage the implementation of the Youth Advisory Council
- Facilitate the Youth Advisory Council meetings two times per month with members in grades 9th-12th, and provide training opportunities for the youth
- Collaborate with Youth Advisory Council members to develop and refine training curriculums to be reflective of youth voices and needs
- Supervise, train, and provide ongoing support to interns and Bonner Scholars to support MENTOR Virginia’s work as requested
- Other duties as assigned to support the continuity of operations
Qualifications:
A relevant bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or commensurate experience required. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in training and curriculum development experience (previous youth services/mentoring experience preferred). The ideal candidate will have the ability to work flexible hours including limited evenings and weekends as needed, as well as travel on occasion. The ideal candidate will be expected to attend all fundraising and other agency-wide events as a member of the MENTOR Virginia team. This position is currently a hybrid work environment with some required weekly in-person office hours in Richmond, Virginia.
- Strong understanding of youth mentoring and developmental relationships
- Deep understanding and appreciation of the principles, best practices, and ethics of culturally relevant mentoring
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain a high degree of integrity, credibility, and trustworthiness
- Experience leading and facilitating in-person and virtual trainings with youth and adults
- Experience in curriculum development, presentation, and communication skills
- Proven experience in program and talent management
- Strong writing and editing skills, and the ability to synthesize information or research
- A strong understanding and appreciation for racial equity, diversity, inclusion, global cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
- Ability to collaborate and connect with diverse audiences
- Self-motivated, proactive, organized, and enthusiastic to work in a growing and changing environment
- Ability to build trust-based, collegial, and effective relationships as part of a team
- Working knowledge of MS office, Google, video conferencing, and CRM platforms
