What is the Mentoring Connector?

The Mentoring Connector is the only national database of mentoring programs. Each year, potential volunteers looking for mentoring opportunities do more than 80,000 searches in this system. This free service helps quality youth mentoring programs recruit more local volunteers while greatly increasing visibility for their organizations.

Why Should You List You Program in the Mentoring Connector?

MENTOR Virginia receives emails and phone calls every week from prospective mentors as well as caregivers and other caring adults, all looking for mentoring programs to become involved with or refer a young person to. We respond to these referrals by providing instructions for how to search the Mentoring Connector, or we conduct a search and share the results with the person seeking resources. Our referrals are only as strong as our network of programs listed in the Mentoring Connector. By joining the Mentoring Connector, your program is able to recruit more volunteers and help ensure that mentors and mentees alike can access mentoring resources in their community.

How Does the Mentoring Connector Work?

Anyone interested in becoming a mentor can search for mentoring opportunities by zip code, ages of youth served, and program type to find and contact programs that interest them. Families and other caring adults can also use the database to find programs for a young person. MENTOR Virginia uses this database to make referrals when we receive inquiries from volunteers, families, and school counselors. Our national partners at the NBA, the White House’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative, and others use the Mentoring Connector on their websites to recruit volunteer mentors.
