2019 was a big year for MENTOR Virginia! Not only did we say goodbye to Elizabeth Bass, our Executive Director since 2013, we also changed our name from Virginia Mentoring Partnership to MENTOR Virginia. Throughout these transitions, we remained committed to the delivery of our core services to volunteers and program partners alike. Here’s a look at the impact MENTOR Virginia had in 2019 through three of our major services: training, technical assistance, and AmeriCorps VISTA.
Training
Through a combination of public and private trainings with our New Mentor and Connect Focus Grow training curriculums, MENTOR Virginia engaged 35 partners in the delivery of 64 trainings to 1,628 individuals. We trained over 150 more people this year than we did in 2018!
Technical Assistance
Through our partnership with the National Mentoring Resource Center, a project of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, MENTOR Virginia engaged 37 partners in 51 technical assistance requests and provided over 910 hours of one-on-one consultation aligned with best practices to partner mentoring programs. We offered over 100 more hours of technical assistance in 2019 than we did in 2018!
AmeriCorps VISTA
Through our partnerships with non-profit and government agencies across Virginia, MENTOR Virginia engaged 10 partners in the hosting of 19 VISTA Members who collectively served over 30,000 hours as they built and enhanced mentoring programs for low-income youth. MENTOR Virginia’s 7th cohort of VISTA Members (2018-2019) served 526 youth, raised $104,699 for their agencies, and recruited 215 mentors.
2019 was a major success for MENTOR Virginia, but the work of supporting our partner mentoring programs in the provision of high-quality mentoring services is not done yet. In 2020, MENTOR Virginia has set goals to train 1,700 mentors, program partners, and young people; provide 780 hours of technical assistance to program partners; and welcome 10 new AmeriCorps VISTAs to build capacity for mentoring programs across Virginia. Please consider supporting MENTOR Virginia in reaching these goals with a gift to our Annual Fund.
